Winter Swimming Sundays at the Strandbad Tegelsee

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It is a Sunday in January and the water temperature is 4 degrees. A number of swimmers are standing on the shore – some with wetsuits, but many without – and are venturing their first steps into the water. This wintry bathing scene will surely either give you cold pleasure or fill you with icy horror, depending on how you see it.

If you belong to the former camp (or just want to enjoy swimmers in ice-cold water), we’ve found Berlin’s best place: Strandbad Tegelsee. At the Sunday ice swim, you can join a brave team of like-minded people to warm up, practice breathing, and get in the water together.

It’s a fun, communal and, most importantly, risk-free way to swim in the winter, and there’s a bonfire and hot food and drinks to warm you up afterwards.

So what are you waiting for? Take off and feel the endorphins being released!

Strandbad Tegelsee, Schwarzer Weg 21, 13505 Berlin– Tegel.

Ice bathing takes place every Sunday in January and February at 1 pm. Participation is free of charge. The lake can be reached by car or from Alt-Tegel (U6) by bus 222, which is followed by a 1 km walk.
